 Prompt: Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on activities.     Prompt Response: The learning method I enjoy the most is hands-on. I like projects and anything I can put together. I mentioned in my other blog posts that I am a creative person and how I like crafting. I also enjoy class discussions, but most times in our own fifth period I don't feel compelled to speak. It's typically because I don't feel comfortable enough.     Summary: Today in class we split into groups of three and picked one out of three views on "what does it mean to own something." We then made claims and how our experiences, observations and readings support said claims.     Reflection: I learned how to properly match my claims with my experiences, observations and readings. I can use this while crafting my argument or counterargument essays.     

Prompt: Describe something you will never fully understand.     Prompt response: Something that I feel like I will never completely understand is the concept of cheating. I don't really have the experience to talk about relationships, but I've observed relationships in life, on social media and in movies. I don't understand why you would cheat on your partner if you love them. And If you happen to fall out of love with said partner why not just tell them that so you and them can move on in life, instead of going behind their back. Cheaters always know the consequences of their actions, how it's going to affect their partner, and how it adds a bad look to their reputation. I think cheating is a result of a lack of self and emotional control.     Summary: In class we made claims for our positions on how polite speech is used in different communities and cultures. We made five claims and crafted five experiences, observations and readings that went with those five claim...

 Prompt: Describe one thing that makes you different from other people.     Prompt response: One thing that makes me different from other people is my unwavering knowledge of older music, shows and movies. My favorite decade is the 70s. From the music to the styling of their clothes, its so chic. Because I live with two other generations I'm constantly being introduced to older music, shows and movies. I'm usually not around my own generation until I get to school, so during the summers is when I really learn a lot. I think it makes me a well rounded person. Summary: Absent Reflection: Absent 

 Prompt: How has living in or around Atlanta influenced the way you see your community, culture, or identity?     Prompt response: Atlanta has a prominent black community that leads the city and teaches me leadership. Although I am in the metro area, the city is twelve minutes away, so on the weekends my mom and I are almost always up there. Living in Atlanta teaches me to have love for my community. It makes me want to volunteer and help anyway I can. Atlanta is a safe place knowing that there are so many people in the city that look like me.     Summary: Today in class we watched Ms. Keisha Lance Bottoms speech "Go home" and used SPACE CAT to identify the rhetorical situation.  Reflection: I learned about the George Floyd riots in Atlanta and how they caused Ms. Keisha Lance Bottoms to speak out. By dissecting her speech I was able to find the rhetorical appeals and situation. 

 Prompt: What is the most creative thing you have ever made?     Prompt response: The most creative thing I've ever made is a comic. When I was in elementary school to the end of middle school, I had a comic called "London + Pie". It was inspired by numerous shows I used to watch and the famous comic "Calvin and Hobbes". In middle school My uncle bought me a entire collection of Calvin and Hobbes, and I absolutely loved them. I created multiple characters and adventures for my characters to go on.     Summary: In class we were given a SPACECAT, which is a rhetorical situation.     Reflection: I learned that I can use SPACECAT to identify my rhetorical situation. By identifying my rhetorical situation I can use it within my argument.     

      Prompt: Describe a time you felt completely lost. Prompt response: A time I felt completely lost was when I was in my Geometry class, sophomore year. I run track and unfortunately most of our meets were scheduled during the week. The way the class operated was we learned a boatload of new content each day except Fridays, which were usually review days or quiz/test days. When I had a meet during the week, that same week I would come to class the next day I would always feel completely lost. I was always playing catch up.      Summary: In class we identified claims of fact, policy and value from a passage on how three-year bachelors degrees can save families.     Reflection: I learned how to properly identify the claim of fact, value and policy in a text. I can also explain why they are either one. 

      Prompt: Write about something you believed as a child.     Prompt response: As a child I believed in the tooth heavily. I absolutely loved the concept of a whole fairy coming to get MY own tooth under my pillow. It was especially fun for me because I was a snagatooth. My teeth would fall out left and right and grow back in even crazier than before. I was so obsessed I used to find innovative ways to take my teeth out to see if the tooth fairy would reward me more.      Summary: Today we went over the different types of claims and we did a worksheet at the end of class.     Reflection: I learned the three different types of claims. Claim of Fact, claim of value and claim of policy. I realize that I use claim of policy often to propose a change.

    Prompt: Think about an argument or disagreement that you wish you could have handled differently. What happened, what was your goal, and what would you do differently now? Use at least one idea from chapters 1-3 of "Thank You for Arguing" in your response.     Prompt response: I remember I got into an argument about race with one of my friends. He tried to say "the darker you are the more aggressive you are." I, of course, had a complete opposite opinion then him and I felt offended being that I'm darker skinned myself. Instead of effectively arguing I got into my feelings which led us from an argument to a fight. One thing from "Thank You for Arguing" that I understand looking back at the fight is that I shouldn't have tried to outscore my opponent, instead I should've tried to get my own way.      Summary: Today we read the first three chapters of "Thank You for Arguing" and we finished our ethos, pathos and logos assignment.   ...

      Prompt: Think of a time when you tried to persuade someone to agree with you, change their mind, or do something you wanted. What were you trying to persuade them to do or believe? How did ethos, pathos, or logos persuade them? Which appeal was most effective and why?     Prompt response: This summer I tried to convince my mom to let me get a job. I am sixteen and usually people my age start getting jobs around this time. Thinking back on it I realize I used ethos to explain my credibility to her as a responsible person. I am responsible for multiple things around the house, so I used that as a way to establish my credibility.       Prompt:  As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family or society.     Prompt response: As I grow older the topic I'm debating about more and more seems to be dress code. For whatever reason I get called "grown" or "fast" for just wanting to wear a tank top or a skirt. I don't necessarily want to dress in revealing clothes, but why am I always criticized for what I'm wearing. This is more of a topic for my family due to the fact that Lakeside doesn't have a real dress code. You also see this in a society where younger girls are called "grown" or "fast" for small things when there are bigger issues society could be worrying about.     Summary: Today in class we learned about arguments and rhetorical appeals.     Reflection: The three different types of rhetorical appeals are logos, ethos and pathos.       Prompt: Three things I would like to achieve this school year.      Prompt Response:  The three things I want to achieve this year academically are very important to me and is something that I will be taking very seriously. I would like to maintain all A's in B's in all of my classes. I would like to raise my GPA up to a 4.0 or higher. I want to become better at time management and also become more intentional with assignments. These three goals should be met by the end of each semester and I will not settle for less.
