Think about a time when someone challenged your opinion or told you that you were wrong. What was the disagreement about, and how did you defend yourself? Did you change their mind, or did they change yours?

10/19     Prompt:  Think about a time when someone challenged your opinion or told you that you were wrong. What was the disagreement about, and how did you defend yourself? Did you change their mind, or did they change yours?     Prompt Response: One time I got into a debate about the difference in a social studies class and a history class. The person I was debating claimed that there was no difference but I claimed that there is. As evidence I decided to compare and contrasts my own history and social studies classes because I'm taking AP U.S History and AP African American studies. I showcased how in AP U.S History we learn about past events in a chronological order whereas in AP African American we analyze the societal structures and current events. In the end I wasn't able to change their mind and they couldn't change mine.      Summary: In class we learned fifteen new vocabulary words and did an assignment according to them.   ...

Have you ever worried about what others think of you? How did it affect your actions or decisions? Share a personal experience and use hypophora at least once in your response.

10/14     Prompt:  Have you ever worried about what others think of you? How did it affect your actions or decisions? Share a personal experience and use hypophora at least once in your response.     Prompt response: In the ninth grade I always worried that people would think I was ugly and weird looking.  It got so bad I used to ask myself "Am I ugly?". The way I would answer that now is completely different to how I used to answer that question. That question seemed to always affect how I acted. However, now I have greater self confidence and self esteem.      Summary: In class we went over rhetorical devices, procatalepis, distincio and similie.      Reflection: I learned about how objections are used in procatalepis. I can use it for counter claims and arguments.

10/13     Prompt:  "We spend more time connecting online but less time connecting in person." Do you agree or disagree with this antithesis? Explain your perspective using personal experiences. Discuss how technology has influenced the way people communicate and build relationships. In your response, include at least one original example of antithesis.            Prompt Response:  I disagree, I do feel that the internet has changed human interaction a tad, but not to the extent people think it has. After homecoming, a couple of my friends and I ended up going to IHOP to socialize and connect and not one phone was being used during.  This is proof of how people are still connecting in person. Technology has been a primary way of how we communicate but I don't think it takes away from human interactions. Interaction is still present in a world of isolation.            Summary: In class we went o...

Looking back, do you think your exaggeration made your message more effective? Explain.        Prompt Response: I remember one day when my mom and I were getting ready for a big event. I was the first to get ready and my mom was after me. I waited and waited and finally I realized she still wasn't ready. I finally went up to tell her "You are taking forever and and half a minute", exaggerating how long she was taking. Looking back my exaggeration did make my message more effective because it put emphasis on how long she was taking.      Summary: In class we went over rhetorical devices hyperbole, understatement and litotes.      Reflection: I learned the name of rhetorical devices that I realized I use on a daily basis. This helps me t...

9/30     Prompt:  After reviewing the feedback on your argument essay, identify one thing you did well and one area you need to improve. Explain what you will do differently the next time you write an AP Lang argument essay.     Prompt Response: One thing I did well based off the feedback was one of my pieces of evidence. My best piece of evidence was about my six week documentation of my physical therapy trips. What I need to work on is my sophistication and my conclusion paragraph. What I would do differently is my planning. I will also try to explain more in depth and connect that back to my thesis.     Summary: Today we talked about our essays and writing our own poems.     Reflection: I learned about my improvements and what I could work on. This feedback can help me on the AP test.

Write about a conversation that changed you.

9/29     Prompt: Write about a conversation that changed you.      Prompt Response: For context I am an only child. One time my mom got extremely upset at me and told me I was selfish. This conversation changed me because she brought it to my attention that I was selfish. Unfortunately it is a character trait I possess and without her telling me that I feel like I wouldnt've tried to be better. I have since worked on selflessness instead of selfish.      Summary: Today we did a worksheet about "Constantly Risking Absurdity."     Reflection: I learned about the pressure poets feel to write poems. It helps navigate my own troubles as a writer.
